Vijayapura: Aug, 13. (Jaffer Kaladgi) MLC, Sunil gouda Patil has donated blankets to flood victims of Bagalkot and Vijayapura worth Rs.1 lakh worth on Tuesday.
Handing over a van-load of blanket to DC Y. S. Patil, he said that being an MLC of local bodies’ constituency representing both districts, I recently visited flood hit areas to assess the situation.
He also promised to supply cradles to newborns as he has come across several cases of women making their newborn babies sleep on unsafe places in shelters.
“ The grown ups can manage in rehabilitation centres, but the newborn babies need more care and safer place, thus I have decided to donate some cradles with mosquito nets that can keep the newborns safe”, he said.
He said that people were in dire need of help mainly in Jamkhandi and Mudhol which has affected badly by flood.
“ People have lost their homes and valuable. They will have to rebuilt their life after flood subsides”, Mr. Patil said.
Urging the government to offer Rs. 50,000/acre compensation to farmers who have lost their standing crop in the floods, he also demanded the government to built permanent houses for those who lost there houses completely in the flood.
Informing that in many villages transformers have submerged owing to which, electricity supply has completely disrupted, he urged the administrations of both districts to restore the electricity supply as quickly as possible.
Fearing that stagnant water could help the breed mosquitoes which could cause deadly diseases such as dengue and malaria, he said that precautions must be taken to prevent any outbreak in flood affected areas.
